Purpose and preparation#
rjtwins' tool converts named X3D scene elements into X4 XML connections. It handles attachment points rather than replacing a full model exporter. The author describes V4; current Blender/X4 compatibility needs a separate check.
First exercise#
- Prepare a scene copy with a reference model and one attachment point.
- Name it using the author's groupname_type_number convention and supported type list.
- Export the relevant scene as X3D using a compatible route and process it with the tool.
- Compare generated positions/quaternions with the intended side and orientation.
- Assign a macro where required; a connection alone does not spawn a dock or weapon.
Expected result#
The output contains XML connection positions and orientations. Validate one point before bulk placement or mirroring.
Checks and limits#
The author notes that the bundled EXE may lag behind Python sources. Naming, size and grouping rules vary for turrets, shields and fixed weapons. X3D export availability depends on your Blender setup.
