Purpose and preparation#

Egosoft's tool list describes Max Bain's X4 Editor as a tabular editor for ship and station-module macro properties. Start with the author's page and chosen release instructions. This article does not establish current UI details or X4 9.00 compatibility.

First exercise#

  1. Prepare data with the catalog tool and identify one known macro.
  2. Configure input/output directories using the editor manual.
  3. Change one field and compare its macro name, attribute path and units with XML.
  4. Inspect export output and determine whether it is a diff or a full file.
  5. Put the isolated change in a test extension and check the actual value.

Expected result#

The expected artifact is a change to the selected XML field. An editor table helps with data entry but does not replace inspecting the final patch.

Checks and limits#

The forum page was behind an automated access check during preparation, so specific UI labels and release compatibility are not invented here. A manual XML patch provides a clear first exercise.
