--- title: Custom player logos and glow maps summary: Prepare a PNG, find the logos folder and check the emblem selection in game. section: ships kind: guide status: reference updated: 2026-10-27 tags: ["X4","modding","custom","logos"] sources: ["https://wiki.egosoft.com/X4%20Foundations%20Wiki/Modding%20Support/Assets%20Modding/Community%20Guides/User%20Generated%20Logos%20-%20Usage/"] --- ## Prepare the image Start with a transparent square 256×256 PNG. Name it `playerlogo_01.png`; an optional glow map is `playerlogo_01_glow.png`. This is a player logo rather than a new ship paintmod. ## Find your profile The `logos` folder belongs in X4 user data: normally within the numeric Steam profile directory, or directly under X4 for GOG. Use the actual profile location, including redirected Documents folders. Placeholder layout, not a real account ID: ```text Documents/Egosoft/X4//logos/ playerlogo_01.png playerlogo_01_glow.png ``` Do not publish your personal profile ID in instructions. Create the directory if missing. ## First exercise Create an original simple emblem: a bright symbol over transparency, without tiny text. Test the base PNG first, then add a glow map so the cause of each change is clear. After launching and loading, find logo selection under player/empire information. Expect a selectable custom emblem; inspect it on an object in bright and dark lighting. ## If it is missing Check the filename, actual format, square dimensions and profile. Ensure the editor wrote PNG content rather than merely changing an extension. This article does not claim a completed game test. Materials and paint use a different workflow: [ship models](wiki:ship-models).
